Youth Swim Testing
Youth members, 11 and younger, who want to swim independently while at the YMCA without an adult in the pool, will be required to pass a swim test.
Once the swim test is passed, they will be given a bracelet indicating that they have passed. This bracelet should be brought to the Y and worn every time the youth swims. Branches have designated specific swim test days and times that members can register for, in advance, to conduct a swim tests.
The swim test is free.
The following are the requirements for the swim test:
- Swim, head down for 25 yards. Must come up and take a breath and continue swimming without standing up.
- Tread water for 60 seconds
- Jump in from the side of the pool, doing a jump push turn, and grab to return back to the wall.
Casitas Rowing Swim Assessment
Participants of Lake Casitas Rowing may register for a swim assessment to obtain clearance for the swim competency as outlined by Casitas Rowing. The swim test required the following criteria:
- 25 yard swim
- 10 minute treading water
- Must be able to put on lifejacket while treading.
Swim tests are provided at no charge on Monday, October 20th during the two group testing options.
Outside of the date listed above, participants of Lake Casitas Rowing may purchase one 30-minute private swim lesson with a certified swim lessons instructor to obtain clearance for the swim competency as outlined by Casitas Rowing. Please note that payment of private session fees do not guarantee swim competency clearance.
