Youth members, 11 and younger, who want to swim independently while at the YMCA without an adult in the pool, will be required to pass a swim test.

Once the swim test is passed, they will be given a bracelet indicating that they have passed.  This bracelet should be brought to the Y and worn every time the youth swims. Branches have designated specific swim test days and times that members can register for, in advance, to conduct a swim tests.

The swim test is free.

The following are the requirements for the swim test:

• Swim, head down for 25 yards. Must come up and take a breath and continue swimming without standing up.
• Tread water for 60 seconds
• Jump in from the side of the pool, doing a jump push turn, and grab to return back to the wall.
