Academic Chess (Ages 4-7)

This program is for K-1st Graders attending Montecito Union School

We are devoted to promoting the merits of chess among children by using stories, dances and catchy songs to make the game of chess exciting and easy to understand. Children participating in our program develop critical thinking and problem solving skills, have better concentration and mental discipline, gain confidence and have lots of FUN! All students in chess club receive an exclusive Academic Chess workbook, prizes for good sportsmanship and participate in the “BIG TOURNAMENT” on the last day where all kids take home a prize!

Partnering with the Children Resource Creative Project, Art Through the Ages, students will observe and discuss works of art from different periods of history and explore how the techniques used in the past can still be applied to their own art today. Students will get to experiment with a variety of artistic methods and media and have opportunities to work individually and collaboratively. The course will also build observation skills and critical thinking as the students discover the methods used to create works of art in a hands-on way.

In partnership with Code.org, a nonprofit dedicated to giving every K-12 student in the US opportunity to learn computer science, this Coding enrichment class will introduce and expand student’s knowledge of computer science. Even the youngest learners will begin to learn the basics of how technology works. The program will introduce computer science concepts such as logic, problem-solving, and creativity. A Code.org certified instructor will be teaching the class.
